How do I transfer my FTM tree files from one computer to another?
It is super straightforward to transfer your FTM trees. However, it is highly cautious
and important that a backup is initiated (using an external USB drive or a cloud storage
device such as Dropbox) before exporting your FTM files from one computer to
another. Besides, the USB flash drive is critical to this guideline of exporting your FTM
tree files appropriately.
For more detailed information on how to back up your tree file, you can read our

Here are the steps to take in rapidly transferring your FTM tree files with ease
and simplicity.
● The first thing you must do is open your Family Tree Maker 19 software on the
first computer and access your current source tree.
● Immediately that is done, execute a full backup of your source tree, locate
where it has been created and copy it into your USB flash drive.
But how do you copy your tree file into the USB flash?
● Here is a simple step: Having accessed your FTM tree file, Select it, Copy it, and
paste it into your USB drive.
● You can then disconnect the flash drive from the first computer by right-clicking
on its name and selecting Eject to unplug it safely.
Have you done that? Good!!
So, what is the next step?
● You should proceed to the second computer into which you desire to transfer
your source tree file and plug your USB flash drive into any of its available USB
ports.
● Now, at this point, it is important that this second computer already has the
FTM 2019 installed into its operating system. If that has not been done, check
up on how to do that by clicking here.
Now, what’s next?
● Afterwards, you have to repeat the backup process of the FTM tree files into
your computer’s hard disk before the restoration process.
● Then, just like with the first computer, open the FTM 19 program, click the File
tab and select the Restore option.
● Immediately, you will see a dialogue through which you can navigate to the
saved location of the backup file.
● Having located it, select it and click the Open icon. Just instantly, the Save
dialogue appears, and you can then select where you want your files saved on
your hard disk and click the Save button to restore your tree files from the
backup.
And there you have it!!!
