Cloud Backup in Tree Media Folder
Backing up your essential facts and data for future adjustments is vital to preserving a good
update of your task. Everyone is aware of the necessity to always have a backup for every
important file or folder you desire to keep protected and available.
Online backup is also known as remote or Cloud backup. In case of disaster or equipment
failure, it can be used for storing a copy of a virtual file or database in a secondary, off-site
location.
Using your Family Tree Maker software program is no different, and it is important to know
how to backup details of your generated family tree.
While you can use the external USB drive to keep your essential files duplicated and stored
for future retrieval, various file-hosting sites have been adopted to automatically save your
files in the internet workspace. Such hosting sites include Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive,
and iCloud (which is the focus of this article).
But first, concerning the use of the Family Tree Maker, this file hosting is essentially not
despicable. Why?
Within your Family Tree Maker is TreeVault, which would always have a perpetually updated
form of every Source tree. It will make it easy for you to restore such a tree during urgent
demand. But the unfortunate side to this advantage is that the media (photos and videos) of
your Source tree are not kept nor updated by the TreeVault.
Consequently, in case of a crashing of the hard drive of the computer system or malware,
your media data are certainly not protected. Therefore, you need external storage outside
the computer itself.
Now, back to those file-hosting sites, they serve as free, dependable, and accessible tools
(with specific storage limits). You make your choice based on convenience.

Backing up Tree Media Folder in Cloud
• A cloud backup of your tree media folder is not a big deal.
• Given that all computers are either based on the Mac or Windows operating system,
we will provide distinct steps. However, most parts of the procedure are entirely the
same. So, what do you have to do first?
• Before backing up your Source tree’s media folder, the name and location of your
media folder on your computer must be known. Furthermore, there is a chance that
some of your Source tree media files will not be kept directly in the tree’s media folder
but only connected to the tree from several locations on your computer. Hence,
ensure that replicates of all media files utilized to create your tree are collectively
placed in the media folder. How?
For both Windows and Mac devices
Note: Alternatives terms for Mac are placed in brackets.
• Locate the Collection tab on the Media workstation and select any media item by
clicking on it. Next select Edit > Select All and select Edit > Copy to have all media
items in the collection copied.
• Afterward, you have to navigate to the tree’s media folder in File Explorer and Paste
(Edit > Paste) on your Home tab. A message pops up, and select the Do this for all
current items checkbox and click Skip to prevent the rewriting of previously stored
files. With all files in one place, go ahead to back up.
• With all that done, ensure that iCloud has been downloaded from the iCloud
website or the Microsoft Store (if you use Windows 10 OS). After its complete
installation, restart the computer, launch iCloud, and enter your Apple ID and
password. Select all checkboxes in front of all content to be backed up and
click Apply to save.
• All media files on your computer, including your Source tree, have been backed up to
Cloud.
